WENGER RACES HISTORIC ROUTE WITH 50TH ANNIVERSARY WATCH
Only 600 Limited Edition Timepieces Crafted for Historic Rallye des Alpes
Orangeburg, NY - Vintage road rallye fans or classic car buffs can wear a piece of history as Wenger commemorates the 50th running of the historic Rallye des Alpes with a limited edition Alpine Swiss Rallye Watch. Made famous by racing greats like Jan and Pat Appleyard, the Morles brothers, and Stirling and Pat Moss, the Rallye des Alpes is one of the oldest and most famous auto rallyes in Eurpoe. The race is a resurrection of classic cars, some of which date back to the 1920s and represent such legendary manufacturers like Jaguar, Austin Healey, Porsche and Bentley, to name a few. Wenger is proud to be the Official Watch and Knife Sponsor of this storied race that will follow the Rallye's original route from Geneve to Marseilles.
In celebration of the silver anniversary, the Limited Edition Alpine Rallye Watch is beautifully crafted with a silver/grey dial and black-vented leather strap reminiscent of classic driving gloves. In addition to featuring Wenger's 2-Eye Swiss Chronograph movement; the Alpine Swiss Rallye boasts a tachymeter (used to measure speed over a known distance) and luminous hands, numerals, and markers for easy visibility. Wenger chose a 12 hour chronograph movement for the 50th anniversary piece. There are only 600 units of this exceptional, individually numbered timepiece being produced and each comes in a keepsake black wooden box with a Rallye des Alpes medallion as well as a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity. MSRP of the Alpine Swiss Rallye is $375.
"A special anniversary calls for an exceptional commemoration and we believe that our limited edition Swiss Alpine Rallye Watch honorably represents the history of this special event," said Guy Corcoran, Chief Marketing Officer of Wenger N.A. "We believe it captures the beauty and essence of this timeless road rallye."
Commencing in picturesque Switzerland, home to Wenger for more than a century, the Rallye des Alpes will see over 100 vintage car enthusiasts and their automobiles converge in Geneva on July 3rd and begin their three country journey through Europe. The Rallye winds its way through Switzerland and Italy and over mountain passes that will reach close to 8,000 feet before journeying into France. Participants will experience the hospitality and local cultures of acclaimed cities like Geneva, Lausanne, Zermatt, the "Motor City" of Turin, Cannes, and finally end in the race's spiritual home of Marseille.
The course is challenging and competitive with breathtaking views highlighting some of the most magnificent and aesthetic areas of Europe. Some of the most noteworthy stops include Lausanne, which lies on Lake Geneva and is the Capital of the Olympic Games, the Jura Mountains, the Matterhorn, and finishes in Marseille which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The 50th race is full of social events like town festivals that have been set up in honor of the race and historic monuments in Italy that commemorate road racing milestones.
