The Swiss Federal Charter (the Bundesbrief) of 1291 is generally considered the birth of Switzerland. Five hundred and ninety-nine years later, the first Swiss Army knife was issued; it would soon become the international symbol for ingenuity, efficiency and multi-functionality.
