There are a few more companies than mentioned here in Colorado, but a majority of them come from the same manufacturer: Never Summer. Here are 5, including Never Summer who stand out to us.
Not only do they have their own popular line of Boards, but this manufacturer builds their own skateboards, along with skis for Icelantic, Fat-ypus and several other ski and board companies. Located in east Denver, Never Summer cranks out an average of 120 snowboards, 60 skateboards and 50 pairs of skis in two shifts with seventy workers. About 70 percent of their output is their own, Carbonium, Cornerstone, Park, Freeride, Backcountry and Kids series of boards.
Based in Dillon and building boards since 1995, this Summit county manufacturer features 7 different boards from The Whale to this year’s new Kapow. Unity endorser Zack Black just finished 15th in the Breckenridge Dew Tour pipe event on Dec 14 and will be competing in all the Olympic qualifying events this year.
Klemmens Branner built his first snowboard in 1986 using scrap material from his father’s workshop. From these humble beginnings, he and wife Lisa founded Venture in 1999. In 2002 they moved operations to Durango and now have been operating from Silverton in the heart of The San Juan Mountains since 2007. From the Zelix to the Euporia, this boutique board company’s boards have been garnering rave reviews. The Sklar was named the best board for “Riders looking for big mountain twin tips” by Outside Magazine in their Best Snowboards of 2014 article.
Named after a Yugoslavian acrobatic pigeon and with a wide variety of models and a choice of graphics on any model, these boards are truly custom made. Started from humble beginnings in Aurora and now located out in the country east of Denver, this family owned business is turning heads. On their roster they have Converse Fields who competes on the World Cup in GS and SL along with adaptive athlete Mike Shea with a podium at the X-games and a second place ranking in the world.
With offices in Wheatridge, owner Adam Browning has pledged to never move production of his Oz Snowboards outside of Colorado. His factory is powered 100% by wind energy and his boards come with a 3 year guarantee. Ox Snowboards use FSC certified solid wood cores harvested from sustainable forests and are only sold directly through the factory.
